We’re innovative, we’re organized and we work hard to earn your trust

We recognize that projects are getting larger and more complex; facilities are becoming “greener” and more technologically advanced. We know that what happens before and after construction affects project outcomes just as much as what happens during construction. This is why we have developed a full suite of construction, engineering and maintenance services to help our clients meet the growing demands of projects while minimizing their risk.

Working to maximum efficiency is imperative to ensure each project runs as smoothly as possible. We pride ourselves on retaining a strong skill-set within the organization. Combined with good management and leadership, our team can be where they need to be, when they need to be there and for as long as they’re needed. We’re a company you can trust with genuine commitment to customer satisfaction.

Most important of all, we listen carefully to what you want and need, we’re innovative, we’re organized and we work hard to earn your trust. We recognize that the construction industry is changing at a rapid pace, and we continually strive to be at the forefront. It’s been our way of thinking since our inception.

Our Leadership

Eric Gonneau

As President and CEO of The Gonneau Building Group, Eric guides the business through a collaborative model that inspires the best out of those he works with. He sees value in relationships because he understands that the greatest work comes from people who can share a vision and work together to achieve it.

Eric is an engaged leader who identifies opportunities that allow The Gonneau Building Group to make a difference in the lives of our clients, employees and the communities in which we work.

Eric is a licensed professional engineer and a fifth generation builder. His love and passion for the industry began in Muskoka where he learned the basics of construction working along side his grandfather, father and uncle as they built and renovated various summer estates throughout the District.

After learning the nuances of building fine homes, Eric furthered his education by attending Queen’s University’s Faculty of Applied Science and then Laurentian University’s Faculty of Commerce.

Eric then worked on the front lines as a project engineer & manager for over 20 years where he was routinely part of the design and construction teams for residential, institutional & commercial developments, including renovations/retrofitting of existing buildings and transportation facilities, giving him a complete understanding of the construction and building industry from the ground up.

Eric has experienced many facets of the construction and building industry including: financing real estate portfolios & development projects; zoning, bylaw and fire code compliance; designing, renovating and maintaining all types of buildings; landlord & tenant issues; and working with investment groups. Over the last 20 years, he has managed the project portfolio with a collaborative team of proficient and skilled designers and tradespeople.

Given his extensive background, Eric is routinely asked to present to real estate investors and has given multiple presentations on building code compliance, engineering due diligence, fire code compliance and property maintenance.

Eric believes strongly that it’s important to give back to your community. Over the years Eric has been a Big Brother, a Director of Big Brothers, and a soccer coach. Currently Eric coaches a hockey team, is Past President of the Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance (CCHA) and is the Lieutenant Governor for the Huronia Division of Kiwanis International.

In his spare time Eric enjoys hockey, martial arts, and spending time in Muskoka where he grew up.

Our History

The Gonneau Building Group is the latest chapter in a long family history of carpenters, builders and general contractors, stretching back over five generations spanning over 120 years.

Late 1800s – Oliver Gonneau, a pioneer in Muskoka, started building houses, barns, docks, etc.

1898 – Alexander Gonneau, a skilled master carpenter, started crafting cottages in Muskoka. He was one of the carpenters who constructed the beautiful St. John the Baptist Church on Lake Rosseau, at Morinus.

1936His son, Irwin Gonneau, followed in his father’s foot steps and began building in Muskoka at the age of 14. After serving in the Navy in WWII, he would form his own company, employing over a dozen carpenters, building elite summer estates.

1983 – Irwin’s sons, Barry and Wayne, formed their own general construction firm and continued in the family tradition of creating inspiring structures in Muskoka. With multiple crews they maintained, renovated, and built various homes, cottages, as well as docks, boathouses and decks. Many of these projects were on island properties, which create their own unique access issues.

1994 – Barry’s son Eric graduates from Queen’s University and adds engineering to the family building skills.

2003 – After apprenticing under various senior engineers and being awarded his engineering license, Eric forms The Gonneau Building Group and continues in the family business of constructing and renovating inspirational structures.
